The Game Plan – What to expect from Squidge Eats

I tell ya, coming up with an idea to talk about theme park food while a lot of the parks here in the UK are closed was genius of me, but it has given me some solid planning time. Oh, and if you missed what this whole thing is about, take a look at the Intro Blog Post.

So, what can you expect from Squidge Eats in the coming year?

Theme Park Guides

My main goal is to start building up ‘Where to Eat’ guides for some key parks:

  • Thorpe Park

  • Legoland

  • Chessington World of Adventures

  • Alton Towers

  • Paultons Park

  • Drayton Manor

  • Disneyland Paris

For now, I am sticking mostly to the UK, but I’m a Disney Adult so it’d be rude of me to not include DLP here.

Plus, let's be real. I'm gonna jump at the chance to go and drink more overpriced champagne at Disney.

These will essentially be evergreen guides that I keep as up to date as possible, so you’ve don’t have to trawl the net looking for what you need.

I’ve started fleshing out the basic structure for these guides – but essentially, they should be a list of areas in each park, and the various food outlets in each one. For the time being, these guides will mostly be a basic information resource made up of things from the park websites. But over time, as I get to the parks myself, I can add in missing info, photos of food and menus, and of course, Squidge Recommendations. It might be quite fun to include ‘Community Recommendations’ down the line too!

Food Reviews

The main reason I started Squidge Eats was so I had an excuse to go out and eat yummy food, so of course I’m going to try and get some reviews for park food up this year!

I’m hoping to bring more than just the influencer style “OMG YOU GOTTA TRY THIS” vibe to these posts, so they’re actually somewhat useful. I’ll be factoring in price, taste, and to some extent presentation to these posts depending on the outlet – I don’t need my buffet pizza to be beautifully dished up for example. But I’m armed with a swanky notebook, ready to mark down all my opinions on what’s cooking in the parks.

I'm a sucker for a good notebook, but this thing is leather-bound AND has stone paper pages which means it's also water resistant. Perfect for the British weather!

I’ll be bringing my biggest appetite and possibly some friends to the parks this year so we can make the most out of each trip. We’ll probably have one big trip summary blog, then deep dive into what food we have in the following weeks. Which leads into the next segment rather nicely.

Park Trips

If I was one of those wealthy types, I’d cram as many trips in this year as I could, but alas, I am a mere mortal so I’m dialling back for year one – unless of course this takes off, but we’ll come back to that later.

Currently, Thorpe Park and Legoland are on my radar as my first trips. I know these parks super well, so it feels like they’d be a good starting point for getting some foodie sessions done. And I’ve not been on Hyperia yet, which is a must. The season for these parks opens up again in March/April (not counting the Feb half term dates for Legoland), so Spring 2026 is the aim for my first Squidge Eats trip.

Later in the year, it might be nice to go to some places I’ve not been to, or at least, not been to as often – like Paultons Park and Alton Towers. Plus, I am so curious to see what Paultons new Viking area is like!

Of course, if things pick up and I can head out on more trips, I absolutely will. For now, it’s just trying to prioritise things to get as much out of a trip while still having a great time. What’s the point in doing these things if it’s not fun, right?

I am in the process of working out if it’s going to be worth picking up something like the Merlin Annual Pass – it’s a decent chunk to shell out to begin with, but it then gives a few discounts on top of the park entry which might work out better in the long run. There’s a lot of maths going on behind the scenes right now to make sure I can do the most for Squidge Eats on a small budget.

Get Involved

If you’ve made it this far through the blog post, then hurrah! I’m glad you’re still here! I hope you’re as excited about the future for Squidge Eats as I am, but it’d be pretty cool if this eventually evolved into more of a community thing. I can do this on my own, but let’s be real, it’s more fun to share one’s ramblings with real people as opposed to the void.

So, what does that mean for you?

Well, firstly just reading these posts means so much to me, so if you could keep doing that, I’d be grateful. I’m still figuring things out, but at some point, I plan on opening up an email subscription option for the site, so you should get notified whenever I post something new. Plus, there’s the Instagram and Bsky accounts. Also, fair warning, I would like this site to bring in some kind of revenue, so I will be looking into site ads or perhaps affiliate links in the future. I hate ads myself, so I will never sacrifice site quality for ad space but just be aware that one or two ad spaces may pop up on the site in the future.

I also have a discord server which is a home for fans of all of my creative endeavours, so it’d be nice if we could slot Squidge Eats in there properly at some point. Gives us somewhere to talk about park trips, recommendations, and suggestions for what you want to see.

Talking of suggestions, if there is a place you want me to go, or something you think I should review, by all means let me know! There’s an email form on the website, or you can drop in a message on Instagram. I can’t promise that I’ll get to every suggestion, but it’s nice to have input from other people!

If you’ve got a park trip coming up, I’m happy to offer any tips or recommendations. Though currently, most of my recent knowledge centres around Disneyland Paris. But I’m still happy to try and help. Hopefully in the future, this is the kind of thing that the discord will be for!

There you have it. A rough game plan for the first year of Squidge Eats. I’ll admit, at times it feels a bit daunting – I’m no stranger to writing stuff and chucking it on the internet, but there’s always the question of if anyone but me reads it, let alone enjoys it. So if you do enjoy one of my posts, leave a comment, share it with your friends, print it out and wallpaper your living room with it, it’s up to you. But any support you can give would be appreciated.

And remember, if you are joining me on this adventure, keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times, and let’s eat!
